FROM WASTE TO RAW MATERIAL – WHY THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IS CRUCIAL NOW
Resources are finite – and in the PPE and workwear industry in particular, large quantities of materials are used every day, for example in the form of protective gloves, workwear, socks, and other products that were previously often considered waste after use, even though they still contain valuable raw materials. This is exactly where the principle of the circular economy comes in: sorted materials are recycled and reused, thereby consistently reducing waste, emissions, and the use of new raw materials. For us, it is clear that the circular economy is not a distant promise for the future, but a concrete task in the here and now. That is why we are working with GAIA circulair, a specialized take-back system for PPE and workwear. The first visible result of this collaboration is the 726 All Season socks, which show how sustainable circular economy can be implemented in a practical, measurable, and everyday-useable way.
GAIA CIRCULAIR – STRUCTURED RETURN INSTEAD OF DISPOSAL
GAIA circulair pursues a clearly structured approach to the return of used PPE and workwear – with the aim of integrating the circular economy as easily as possible into everyday working life. After all, the circular economy does not begin in theory, but right where products are used every day: at the customer's site. This is how the take-back system works:
The entry point is deliberately kept simple. Used PPE and workwear can be easily collected – together in a container or box, without any complicated pre-sorting or additional effort. Once the box is full, GAIA circulair takes care of the next step.
1. Structured collection at the customer's premises
2. Handover and forwarding to GAIA circulair
2. Evaluation of materials according to condition and reusability
3. Processing, recycling, or energy recovery
4. Return of the recovered raw materials to new production cycles
A digital logistics and transport dashboard controls the collection and forwarding of products and ensures transparency across all process steps. In addition, participating companies receive traceable sustainability indicators, including those related to selected Sustainable Development Goals. This makes it clear that circular economy does not have to be complicated. It starts with simple collection at the company and unfolds its effect through structured further processing in the next step.
726 ALL SEASON SOCKS AS A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
As part of our collaboration with GAIA circulair, we have added the 726 All Season socks to our range. They are a prime example of how the circular economy can also be successfully implemented in everyday PPE products - without compromising on function, comfort, or quality. What makes the 726 All Season socks special:
+ 98% recycled materials overall
+ 20% recycled workwear as part of the yarn
+ Entirely produced in Europe
+ Suitable for use all year round in changing conditions
The socks clearly show that even seemingly small products can make a measurable contribution to resource conservation – provided that materials are consistently recycled and rethought.
HOW SUSTAINABLE ARE THE 726 ALL SEASON SOCKS?
Transparency is a key component of a functioning circular economy. That is why the environmental impact of the 726 All Season socks is not only described, but also calculated in a concrete and comprehensible manner. This makes it clear which resources are used and what ecological footprint the product leaves behind.Compared to conventionally produced textiles, which predominantly rely on new raw materials, the 726 All Season socks are consistently based on recycled materials. Their production requires 48.60 grams of raw material, 1.03 kWh of energy, and 2.65 liters of water. These values are lower than those of many conventional textile products, where the extraction and processing of new fibers requires significantly more resources. The resulting 346.30 grams of CO2 emissions are transparently reported, making the difference between linear and production models and circular approaches clear.
The 726 All Season socks are thus exemplary for a circular economy that is not just a concept, but is implemented in a measurable, comparable, and practical way in everyday work.
Choose the 726 All Season socks and make a concrete contribution to the circular economy with every pair you buy.
