DGUV Rule 112-191 provides a binding definition of the conditions under which safety shoes may be orthopaedically adapted or individually modified - without losing their protective effect or jeopardizing certification. It therefore provides a clear basis for all those who are dependent on orthopaedic solutions and at the same time require safety in accordance with standards.The rule distinguishes between three fitting options:
+ Type 1 - Approved insoles: Safety shoes are fitted with approved orthopaedic insoles that are individually manufactured and matched to the respective shoe model.
+ Type 2 - Safety shoe adjustments: The safety shoe itself is orthopaedically modified by a certified orthopaedic shoemaker, e.g. by increasing the height, adjusting the width or the sole.
+ Type 3 - Custom-made safety shoes: In this case, a completely individual safety shoe is made to measure to meet special orthopaedic requirements.
The following applies in all cases: The safety shoes must continue to meet all the protection requirements of the relevant standard. Only certified materials and fitting systems that are compatible with the respective model may be used.
